About Room

Stop second-guessing your mixes and finally develop the critical listening skills that separate producers from professional engineers.

This masterclass series is designed for producers who are tired of relying on presets, tutorials and endless revisions to finish their music.

Hosted by the Sydney-based mixing and mastering engineer Lachlan, @BookerAudio, this intensive hands-on program focuses on developing the listening skills, technical understanding and professional workflow required to consistently create mixes and masters that translate across club systems, headphones, cars and streaming platforms.

Rather than teaching plugin tricks or generic formulas, this series explores the decision-making process behind professional audio engineering, helping attendees identify issues faster, trust their ears, and understand exactly what separates an amateur mix from a professional release.

Across 4 weekly sessions of 2 hours, attendees will explore:

WEEK 1 — MIXING FUNDAMENTALS

Build a solid foundation from the ground up.

• Low-end mastery and bass management
• Creating punchy, controlled drums that drive a mix
• Space and separation for synths, vocals and lead elements
• Fixing muddiness, masking and lack of impact
• Building a balanced mix that is both heard and felt

WEEK 2 — ADVANCED MIXING

Take full control of your mixes.

• Advanced problem-solving and professional workflow
• Understanding when and why to use EQ, compression and processing tools
• Creating clarity, depth and detail throughout a mix
• Developing a repeatable process for master-ready results
• Ensuring your music translates across different systems and environments

WEEK 3 — MASTERING FUNDAMENTALS

Learn to hear music through the ears of a mastering engineer.

• What mastering actually is and isn’t
• Critical listening and track evaluation techniques
• Identifying opportunities for enhancement
• Understanding professional mastering decision-making
• Analysing tracks with confidence and purpose

WEEK 4 — PROFESSIONAL MASTERING

Finish tracks with confidence.

• Creating glue, cohesion and fullness
• Advanced mastering concepts and workflows
• Knowing when a track is genuinely finished
• Retaining creative control throughout the process
• Mastering for streaming, download, CD and vinyl formats

Throughout the masterclass, attendees will work through real-world examples, professional demonstrations, mix and master breakdowns, and receive personalised feedback during interactive Q&A sessions.

Whether you’re a beginner producer looking to build the right foundations, an experienced artist wanting greater creative control, or an aspiring audio engineer looking to work with clients professionally, this program provides practical skills and workflows that can be applied to any genre and any DAW.
